Check out how I styled Western-inspired outfits on a recent trip to Nashville this past February (including incorporating those clichéd cowboy boots!)
Once again, almost every piece I wore in Nashville was a rental – from either Rent the Runway, or Nuuly. I wore a lot of denim and leather on this trip, so renting was perfect – I don’t need to own that many denim jumpsuits.
For the easiest Nashville outfit, throw on your favorite pair of jeans and complement with cowboy boots. For my look above, I was worried that tucking the jeans into the boots would be too much, but I think it worked out because of how simple the rest of the outfit was.
I have a good friend who lived in Nashville for two years, who informed me that locals would never wear cowboy boots out in Nashville (dead giveaway that you’re a tourist). I took this into consideration when planning my outfits, but ultimately, I embraced cowboy boots fully – because I am, in fact, a tourist! After spending a whole weekend walking around in cowboy boots, I grew to appreciate them as a classic fashion statement – not just appropriate to wear in Nashville, but appropriate anywhere. (One of my Uber drivers in Nashville overheard me saying “Cowboy boots are back, baby!” to which he replied “Girl, they never left!”)
I’ve worn my cowboy boots around New York City several times since this trip and think they add a fun touch to any look.
I know I just went through a whole pitch about how cowboy boots can complement a simple look…but they can also accessorize a funky outfit!
Featuring my Dior Saddle bag (what better time to accessorize with a saddle bag than on a trip to the land of cowboys?)
In my opinion, the secret to being able to pull off the look above is matching the cream color of the cowboy boots with the cream in the pattern of the skirt. I don’t think boots of a different color (black, or brown) would have worked as well.
For an easy Western-inspired look, try pairing any jumpsuit with cowboy boots. Getting a jumpsuit with wide or flared bottoms helps them fit over the boot!
If necessary, you can always pick yourself up a pair of cowboy boots once you’re already in Nashville!
Sometimes, you have to take the cowboy boots off.
There was only one occasion during my time in Nashville when I chose to wear shoes other than my cowboy boots. I put on heels for our dinner at Dolly Parton’s rooftop restaurant, White Limozeen, which is a fancier venue. I dressed up my ever-present denim with a fun tulle bodysuit that I rented from Nuuly.
Hopefully some of these looks provide inspiration for what you’re packing on your next trip to Nashville!
